REPORT FOR 4th
February 2012
The
first real cold spell of the season devastated the SDFL programme,
causing further headaches for the fixtures secretary. Just two league
matches survived and those cup matches scheduled will now have to be
carried forward to next weekend. UPTON ATHLETIC have already
relinquished home advantage against NEWTON ABBOT SPURS RESERVES and
their Herald Cup tie will now be played at the Recreation Ground on
Friday 10th,
with a 7pm kick-off.
In division two HOOKHILLS UNITED met fellow
strugglers TEIGN VILLAGE and picked up three very useful points,
despite skipper Julian Snook having to deputise in goal. Craig
Downing struck twice for the hosts, Max Prestwood, Jason Burkitt,
Matt Brooke and Rob Carr all adding singles. Pat Williamson and Dan
Martin scored one apiece for the Villagers. The win lifts Hookhills
above Harbertonford on goal difference as they seek to preserve their
divisional status.
The only division four match played saw
promotion contenders FOXHOLE UNITED travel to LODDISWELL ATHLETIC,
with ten man Foxes coming out on top 3-1 and going second in the
table. Jamie Tibbo's double and a single from John Bolus gave the
visitors a three-nil lead with Adam Sherring striking a late
consolation for the hosts. Ilsington Villa remain in top spot but
Foxhole have three games in hand with the mouth-watering prospect of
facing the leaders twice in the league.
