REPORTS FOR W/E SATURDAY 22nd MAY 2010
The extended SDFL season finally reached a conclusion on Saturday, with the three outstanding fixtures being played.
In division two, KINGSTEIGNTON ATHLETIC RESERVES overcame BEESANDS ROVERS comfortably 5-1. Graham Disbury hit a last day hat-trick for the home side, Mike Sanders and Rick Reynolds adding one apiece. Mike Dennis replied for the Bees.
STOKE FLEMING needed a hatful of goals to take the division three title but could only manage six against LIVERTON UNITED RESERVES who failed to score. Gary Aldous netted three with Andy White, Sean Vale and Anthony Matthews also contributing. Stoke's goals did enable them to pip Hookhills United for second place even though United had dominated the division for much of the season.
Division five's last match saw Matt Reed, Simon Langford and Danny Rainbow score for WATTS BLAKE BEARNE 3RDS in their 3-1 win at PAIGNTON SAINTS RESERVES. Sam Winstanley bagged Saints' consolation but their recent form had already enabled them to reach safety.
Midweek matches were largely inconsequential in terms of deciding promotion or relegation issues. STAVERTON & LANDSCOVE's 3-1 victory at DARTMOUTH RESERVES took them to third place in division one. Goals from Mike Summers, Phil Pillar and Ryan Lucas leave Stavvy hoping any possible league restructuring may take them into the Premier. WATTS BLAKE BEARNE finished their “double” winning season nicely with a 4-0 home win over ASHBURTON. Dave Pooley struck twice, as did Tom Sercombe who took his season's tally to a round fifty goals in all competitions.
The WBW South Devon Football League Officers wish to take this opportunity to thank all the League's sponsors, clubs, officials, supporters and the Press for their continued backing throughout a long and arduous campaign. The League would like to remind Clubs, old and new, that the AGM is scheduled for Tuesday 1st June at Homers Heath, the home of Buckland Athletic FC, with a 7.30pm start. Please be on time.
