NEWTON UNITED 0  BEESANDS ROVERS 1

"A crowd of some 250+ watched a very evenly and fairly contested match at the
Foxhole Sports Club Ground, home of Totnes & Dartington.

"Newton United enjoyed much of the early play, restricting Beesands to
ocaissional forays forward and some decently placed set pieces. Jamie Lock
and Gavin Richardson featured well for United, with Ben and Tom Bromfield
prompting Rovers. Lock put a couple of difficult chances wide when closed
down while Guy Watson went close twice at the other end. Half-time soon
arrived with many wondering what United had to do to break through a resolute
defence, Andy Partridge controlling things from his goal. One or
two 'pundits' could see Rovers stealing a result if United didn't capitalise
on their good work.

"The second half commenced with Newton again making the early running, Guney
Uven and Jamie Lock both having shots well saved. Things weren't going all
United's way though as Beesands gradually brought their own pressure to bear.
Rob Greenwood and Guy Watson both put efforts wide of the Newton goal
and 'keeper Martin Byrne was pleased to collect a close range header when a
goal looked likely, midway through the half. Beesands were taking control now
and, in the seventy-third minute, the goal they sought was forthcoming. With
the ball careening around the edge of the Newton penalty area, Ben Bromfield
completely missed his kick and the ball fell nicely for Jack Ballinger to
blast it into the bottom corner. Newton United rallied but could still find
no clear way to their opponents' goal, when they did they found
Rovers 'keeper Andy Partridge in heroic form. The veteran made three
one-on-one saves that had the crowd cheering and his colleagues thankful.
Little wonder he was Man of the Match!".
